Default REPLACEMENT ROPE

i had few PM on my search for new rope for my broken one on my rope cocker..

i was everywhere trying to find a 3/16 nylon rope.

i could not find anything in that size with a breaking rate over 90# and most had to much streach.

so i ended up at hardware store and found 5/32 lawnmower pull rope which is biggest dia i could find in lawnmower rope.
they had it on spool for 15 cents foot.

it took around 5 ft for my horton.

i tried it today and so far it works good but time will tell..
for .75 cents it was better than buying new rope cocker.
also i wrapped the area where it goes around the stock with black electrical tape as this area is where my rope EXPLODED while cocking....

also i am going to change it more often if i see wear showing up..

I found the same solution in buying the rope. The mfgr. wants $8.00/. Also found some rough edges on the hooks. A small fine file and sandpaper smoothed those out so the rope isn't fraying any more.

glad you said that, my brass rollers on hooks were all tore up,i had to dremel tool them all out with a pointed sanding stoneto get it smooth..

i think that is what frayed mine also.

its hard to believe a rope could tear up brass like it did on those hooks.

Default RE: REPLACEMENT ROPE

I like for my hooks to just fall off the string and took a drill bit [the one size that doesn't quite fit, lol] and used it in drill like a rotary file to widen the slots a tad and radius the edges. I only had one for a long time when I saw an Excal one brand new in package at local pawn/bow/coin/atv shop. The owner said he wanted $45 for it, and when I laughed at him and he asked why, I told him $18 anywhere in the world, lol. When he was in the process of moving and I stopped by he threw it on the counter and asked me for $15. I've got ALOT of shots on both and haven't had to replace anything or have the pulleys give out.
