Hello all. Santa blessed me with a new Horton Hunter 175 this year for Christmas ! My brother and I also got a new Morrells broadhead target to share. I had a Horton Exporer that i shot into the Morrells target and had problem with removing. However, when i shoot my Hunter into it, it completely balsts the target. The bolt goes almost all the way in, and when i remove the bolt (it actually slides out relatively easy) my broadhead has cardboard and foam all stuck in it so i know this is bad. Obviouisly the 320 fps and 106 pounds of energy is a little too much for this target. I also saw that Morrells makes a crossbow target but heard it didnt get good reviews. Anyone have any opnions on what kind of target to get. If i keep shooting the one i have now it will be butchered in no time, and my brother needs it too? Does the Morrells Crossbow target work?? Anyother crossbow targets out there?
Imho, layered foam targets start dieing a slow to fast death w/ b-heads right off the bat. I've ruined a Block and two McKenzies so far. What I have now is a bag target for field points and a Rinehart 18-1 for bheads. At one time about a year or so ago I had an 18-1 and could NOT pull GT carbons from it. Recently, I tried another and it works great. Can only assume there was a composition problem w/ 1st one.
What awshucks said is right about a fast death. There is no foam target that last very long when broadheads are used. The best one I've used to date is the Block 4X4. It has 4 sides to shoot, deer vitals on two of the sides and the out side has a skin on it that slows down the loss of the slivers that come loose and fall out. I only use broadheads to test the arrow broadhead combo before hunting and then only a couple of times per arrow. Other than that I shoot it a couple of times during the year with broadheads. Bag targets last a long long time with field points.

I agree with your previous posters. If you're testing BHs for accuracy, then using a foam target is the only thing you can do. Once you've settled on a head, then switch to field tips and bag it (In fact I make my own using grain sacks and discarded plastic bags etc).
I also found that using a smaller, four sided BH, like Slick Tricks, makes my arrows fly the same as using field tips thereby doing away with the need to practice with BH's.

thanks guys.. but has anyone had any experience with the Morrells' Crossbow target? It seems like they would do much better, but i read their reviews on Cabelas and they didnt do very well.
I have the Morrell magnum and its still going strong, but like any target bag/block if you keep shooting one spot they wear out fast....thats why I like the morrell,16 spots on one side and deer vitals on the other......
