Default The rut

My hunting partner was almost run over....by DEER. Coming out of woods after dark, two deer ran right for him. Had to step behind tree to keep from getting run down. One of them was rather large bodied. We hunted hard for 10 days to get a crack at a respectable buck but never did. Saw lots of smaller bucks and does. Makes me wonder where they are when the lights are on.

LOL! thats funny!!

I think in my area the rut is just starting. On the buck I shot his neck was not swollen that much and he was clear full on his inner fat! I bet I took a 24 case of pop box and filled it one third the way full of fat from his belly, one piece was almost the size of his heart! This is the fat deer live off of when the rut is in full swing. All they do is chase, drink and screw! They do not take much time to eat during the rut. You shoot a deer after the rut and almost all of the belly fat will be gone! Mine was starting to smell musky, so I think here in NW Ohio it is just starting as of 11-08-07. Get out there boys!!

RUT what RUT ? here in king george VA i don't see much signs of rut going on. got out Friday evening. 2 small doe's were a hill over no ducks anywhere. i have only been on this property for a month so i don't know the deer population just what the land owners say. i run into some muzzle loader guys Saturday after 6hrs in the woods (son got ants in the pants) they also didn't see any bucks around doe's. i dont know how much the temp plays in the rut but it would be nice if it would start to get cold. this week were looking at mid 50 for the week and 62 on Saturday lows mid 30 to mid 40 overnite.
