Default OT- Sick Dog

Just wanted to share as a FYI with everyone that has female dogs. We have a female black Lab named sablethat is eight years old. I never got her fixed when we got her. Never to worried about it since I had a fenced in back yard and she is a house dog, so her getting knocked up was not a concern. Last two days she has not been eating up to par but looks OK, so I took her into the vet. Found out it is a given that if you do not fixfemale dogs they get infected after age. Well mine is now sick and has to have asurgery that willcost a grand! Not expecting that on my wallet but my dogs are likekids to me so what has to be done has to be done! Just wanted to share if any of you guys have female dogs not fixed.

I agree Jason, after my girls were finished breeding they get fixed. My best friend, a breeder tells me the same thing.

Sorry to hear about your dog Jason, my rottie suffered pretty bad for a day or so when something arose from her not being fixed, she came through fine though.

I can understand the concern you have about yer dog. That is quite expensive to get Vet work. One of my Mrs. small foo foo dogs passed away last week. I buried her out beside her Daddy, her Ma we still have.

Jason, sorry to hear of your problems. As I recently told a friend of ours, pets are long in our hearts but have shorter life cycles than ours. We need to do all we can to keep them in good shape and alive, but it's our job to put them away when the time comes. [Not that yours has yet] We need to focus on the good times and all the joy they've brought into our lives, and then, as hard as it always is, let them go. I equate it to our job to bury our parents, neither ever pleasant but always is gonna be. Good luck, pal.

yeah, thats quite a bit of cash to have to shell out but its not like you have much of a choice... at least it sounds like something thats not real serious and your dog wont be permanantly effected by it

have you gotten a second opinion or is it pretty much asolid factthat she'll have to have this $1000 surgery

When I took her to the vet she had a fever and when he lifted the tail she had some weird stuff come out of her girl spot if ya know whatI mean! He said that was the sign of it and it was a given. The place I take all my dogs to is a top notch place and has a good reputation. They have a large staff and seem real professional. Another guy I know after finding this out had it done to his small breed dog about ten years ago and it cost him 800 bucks,so I think I am OK on the price. Called vet and she will be fine, can pick her up tomorrow, just wanted to FYI people that have female dogs about this. Had I known that this was a common problem with unbred dogs, the 120 bucks to have her fixed would have been alot better!
