Default Rail Lube Question

Hey everybody, I read this forum all the time and have gained some good info. I have been shooting a Horton Explorer XL150 for the last year. I have a question to everyone. I am out of rail lube. What can I use to lube the rails until I can get some more. I want to keep shooting but do not want to shoot with dry rails.

Thanks coyote170, I do have some Excalibur Deck and String wax. Never thought of that as a lube.

Do you have any old maxi-lube or borebutter? How about gojo even vasaline, body lotion. Any of those will keep rails lubed and slick![][]

There are some guys one here that know what is in that stuff and if you do a search on "lube" in the CB section you may find the post and be able to get what it is but under a different name. But if you ran out order some from cabelas or any on line archery supply and you should have it by Wednesday and be back in business, a few days with out it and you should be OK IMO, unless your planning on wearing out a serving in the next few days! LOL!!

"FP-10" has been claimed to be the same as 10 pt's rail lube. Danny Miller, USA warranty rep for Excal advised me and others not to use anything, wax on serving, rail lube, nada. Can't say as I can tell a difference, except on my Emax, a notorious serving eater, lol. His claim is that the wax/lube softens the serving, which allows the "claws" [holds string cocked] to eat the serving prematurly. I've settled on: nothing til serving starts to show signs of serious wear, then light waxing, mostly so I don't have to look at frayed serving, lol. Have fun!!

I use something from my blackpowder handgun shooting days.

Crisco.

You useit to prevent chain firing in a BP handgun, and it also keeps the barrel lubed for the following shot.

Very small amount goes a long way, last a whiles and is oderless also. Also costs like $2 for a 2lb container. Just keep it in a leak proof small container like a 35mm film roll container.

Been using it for over a year and got hundreds of shots. String still looks like new.

That crap they sale in stores just is a money getter..Kind of like buying plus gasoline which is blended 85/15..Dont waste your time buying that junk..Vaseline..KY Jelly..Easy Glide ..will do just fine Ive used them all on my rails and cant tell any diffrence. Plus its cheap and a tube will last for years..
