Default State big game shows

I live in VA and in Sept of each year the State holds a big game contest to recognize the best deer, bear and turkey taken the previous year.
They have different categories for archery, muzzleloader and shotgun/rifle.
VA just allowed crossbow use 2 years ago to those other than the handicapped.
Here's the kicker, if a crossbow hunter wishes to enter his/her deer in the contest (no prize money is involved), it has to be entered into the same category as those taken with a rifle. This was not decided by the VA Game Department but instead by the Izaak Walton League which hosts the show.
Now I'm not a big proponent of game contests money or no, but I don't think it's fair for crossbow hunters to have to compete with deer taken by firearms. What do you think?

Default RE: State big game shows

I know what you mean I am new at this crossbow stuff this will be my first year maybe, things keep grenading off my bow funny I already think of it as a bow which is what it is anyway I found a site that shows all of the aiming devises and different all terrain chairs that these gentlemen have to use to hunt and they have my greatest admiration. I kind of watch some of the posts on some of the state forums and I know some of people personally and I never thought I would hear some of the statements they are making they seem to think if you use a crossbow you are a slob hunter to lazy to hunt any other way. But the truth is you will find that kind of hunter or fisherman in every aspect of the sport bow, gun, muzzle loader anyway sorry for the venting but at the moment I'm trying to decide if I want to waste a weekend and donate my hard earned cash to these same people that call us slobs or stay home and work on my TURNIP patch they tell me deer love turnips. All the best Runk.
