State big game shows
I live in VA and in Sept of each year the State holds a big game contest to recognize the best deer, bear and turkey taken the previous year.
They have different categories for archery, muzzleloader and shotgun/rifle.
VA just allowed crossbow use 2 years ago to those other than the handicapped.
Here's the kicker, if a crossbow hunter wishes to enter his/her deer in the contest (no prize money is involved), it has to be entered into the same category as those taken with a rifle. This was not decided by the VA Game Department but instead by the Izaak Walton League which hosts the show.
Now I'm not a big proponent of game contests money or no, but I don't think it's fair for crossbow hunters to have to compete with deer taken by firearms. What do you think?
