Default For Elk Rage 2 or 3?

Shooting a Horton XL 175 with 20" Carbon Strike arrows, would the Rage 2 or 3 be a better choice?

I am new to CB's but experienced Elk hunter with rifle here in New Mexico. Thank you for input. I hope to have some experience chime in here as I would hope to eliminate as much experimentation on the Elk itself as possible.

Thank you,
Presto

Hate to say this to ya but I think your the first person ever to even mention Rage heads in here. Could be wrong, maybe someone has some info on them.

Al though I am a fan of mechanicals I would not use one on an Elk. I've only taken one, a 5X5, but the experience told me that they are at times tough, big boned, animals that are truly hard to put down. I whacked it with a 180 gr bonded bear claw from a 300 win mag from 50 yds away and it swapped ends and needed a second shot to put down. Fixed bladed broadheads are much tougher than mechanicals, use them, elk deserve the repect that a fixed broadhead will give them.
Good luck.

Perhaps I should ask if there are any experienced elk hunters using crossbows and if so, what are recommendations for setup? Whitetail hunting seems to bevery popular use of crossbows. Out here we tend to chase mule deer and elk. Granted, the crossbow is rarely used at all. The priveledge was extended to me as a wheelchair bound hunter.
Searches I have performed have talked highly of the Rage. But I cannot find anything for elk. Any moose hunters?

Like Dnk said, fixed blades for elk! One elk with a crossbow, makes him more experienced than you!

I apologize for my statement being misread or misinterpretedI did not intend for it to bewritten in poor taste. I truly appreciate your input DnK and very sorry if I came accross as ungrateful.

DnK you are very much correct that elk are very tough, as you experienced with your .300 WM. Of the 14 Public Land bulls I have harvested in CO and NM, only two have dropped in ther tracks (neck shots). Shots in the vitals with rifle or muzzleloader usually allow the elk to make atleast a few more tracks. My intentions are to find a combination for my crossbow that will ethically and efficiently harvest elk, without experimenting on elk. Most of what I find in regard to crossbows is geared toward whitetail whichI would assume are more fragile than elk. Luckydog may want to confirm that though.
Ranger which scope are you interested in? Are your rage the 2's or 3's?
I was thinking along the lines of Bowfisherman that the two blade might weasel in a little farther. My thinking now is more aligned with DnK and Luckydog that mechanicals won't be strong enough.

Thankyou for all of your input.

This is not a disagreement just a question. I was reading somewhere that a two blade allows the wound to seal up unless there are bleeder blades. Bowfisherman, sounds like you may have used two bladed broadheads what's your take on this or did you mean a two blade with bleeders?

Going with Lumizone, off hand Iam wrecking arrows at 25 when useing single spot, at 35 the open sitetakes up too much of the strike zone, want something with more of a fine aiming spot.I know guys with vert compound bows that like the 125 Thunderheads, use 2219 XX75's shafts, these are guys that pick KE over speed...I've taken many of deer, beaver with 100's and 125 Thunderheads but you need to tune them realy good, just in the last 3 yrs now I have been useing Mech(tekin II)and last fall bought the rage for this year....On a side note I also have some zwickeys and Snuffers(for my Trad Bows)both 125grn that I'am thinking of putting on some 2219'sXX75's eastonsand Rhino carbons witch are about = to 2315's.I will start with 5" vains and work down from there if needed.....
This IS my 1st yr with crossbow.....
Was going to go too The North Bitterroot out of Noxon last yrfor Elkbut health kept me from going also canceld this oct hunt for Elk.This was a Rifle hunt not bow....

reason for edit
