Speedball,
here's any easy way to deal w/ FOC. Take 1/2 the arrow length, 20"/ 2 = 10". Balance the arrow w/ tip, should be somewhere around 14", subtract the two, 14-10=4"x 5% per inch =20%oc. More is better than less.

Speedball, 10-15% has been the accepted norm for foc, however, there is new info. available because carbon arrows seem to fly well with high foc. Dr. Ashby has done research on this and has found that extreme foc in the neighborhood of 18+% has increased penetration on big animals (asian buffalo) where bone is always penetrated (the ribs overlap). This is the method I use for finding foc: Find the difference between the center of your arrow (from back of head to the nock) or bolt and the balance point (balance it on a pencil or your finger). Let's say that the difference is 3". Now take that and multiply by 100. Now we're at 300. Take that number and divide by the length of your arrow/ bolt. Let's say that your bolt is 22". 300/22=13.6. 13.6% is your foc.
I'm currently shooting bolts that have a 19% foc. I like the extra overall bolt weight for elk hunting and they seem to fly just as well as 10-15% foc. Hope this helps. Grndhntr.

well i'm a little over 10% for sure around i guess 10.6% it seems to work well though accuracy with my tenpoint is steller i used to shoot around 14% i think for deer any deer its o.k. it still creates 89ftlbs of k.e. speed.......

Speedball, Imho, FOC has nothing to do w/ k.e. That is a figure arrived at by arrow weight and fps.

Just playing devil's advocte. I do not check FOC on my crossbow or compound arrows. If it shoots well then I am happy. If it does not shoot well then I change something. Ok what I do is when I try something like a broadhead that is really long like the Razorcap then I balance it on my finger. If it has any FOC then I shoot it. If it shoots well, Bob's your uncle!
