The limit is not how far you can shoot it and hit what you aim at;it is the same as any other archery equipment the time it takes the deer to react is what limits your distance. If the deer is looking at you I wont shoot over 15 or 18 yds if he is looking away at a wide angle and has to depend on his hearing I will shoot up to 30yds. I watched this target type ignor what we told him this year and he wont be allowed back on the place next year he wounded 6 deer and killed one mostly shooting with the deer turn wrong or to far away. Lee
35 yards! any thing after that is asking for trouble IMO. And thirty five is pushing it. 20 is my comfort zone.

in 50 years of bowhunting ,i dont think any of my bucks were killed over 20 yds..i just dont take long shot,30 would be my max..most were 10 yds..i saw deer jump a string at 10 yds too, i know, it happened to me a few times..

sorry, it was not with crossbow,to be truthful, i have never shot buck with crossbow, still using recurve, bear kodiack, wooden arrows with zewicky heads but i do like you folks, i like shooting in crossbows, done about 7 ,so far and getting many calls to sight in..
there will be day i will be using one,i just got horton for 200 dollars that guy only used 1 year..it was horton ultra sl ..
Sproule, 30 yards is pretty much too far out for a recurve. Well unless you use sights and the bow is real fast. I can understand that if your bow is really slow that a deer may jump the string at 10 yards. Of course a responsible hunter wouldn't hunt with something that slow would he? I know I wouldn't. I'm guessing your arrow would be going all of 100 ft/sec or so.
Sproule maybe for the deer's sake you should be using a crossbow. Maybe a nurf bow!
