how do the bolts stay on if the nock doesn't clip on

There's a spring steel "finger" about 6" long that the arrow slides under that holds it in place. Every so often they will get tweaked a tad and need to be bent back in proper position, easy task to take care of. Having the nock tight against the string is really important.

speaking of which....how much tension should there be on the bolt. mine got bent when cocking rope slid over it. never was sure if i bent it back correctly.

LOL, you too? I've done that a couple of times. Should be 1/4" gap for arrow on Excal. Most anything works though.
