Default 75 pound draw weight

In Ohio the the hunting regulations says. Hunter can use crossbow with draw weight no less than 75lbs. and no more than 200lbs.. Was wondering if anybody has shot a crossbow at 75lb. draw weight and if you think it is enough bow to deer hunt with. Seems to me it would be lacking enough power to be ethical.

They must be referring to Crossbow pistols also.

I reckon a 75 lb. would do fine fer rabbits and squirrels out to 20 yds.

My first xbow in the late 60's was an 80 lb. "Whammo". What a joke! The difference between 10 yds and 20 was about a foot of drop, no way would I ever try one like that on deer. I doubt if you can even find an xbow that light these days.

If I remember right they leave the fine print out on this in the standard hunting regulations. One time I was at the DNR office since the districts office is in my town and asked the guy about the pistols. He showed me deep in the fine print (ya know the big book they pull out and use on ya in court!)were it says the arrows have to be a certain length if I remember right, was a long time ago but he said it was in there to keep CB pistols out of use for hunting since they do not have enough power for killing.

Jason, an Xbow pistol comes in 50 to 80 lbs. I guess it's what Dan is saying, in case some old fart like me might have one of the real old Xbows.

You are right, the low weight is their forthe older CB's. But what I was trying to say is that I am pretty sure the pistols are illegal since the arrow length is to short.

I WOULD NOT GO WITH LESS THAN 150LB. 100LB IS OK AT 20 YARDS ANYTHING BEYOND THAT YOU MIGHT AS WELL STAY HOME.

I meant to add to my earlier post about the Whammos, that they are dangerous and should any of ya'll come across one, use it for a wall hanger, they had a problem w/ prods breaking, fairly dangerous circumstance, IMHO.
