Default RE: Home Made Smokers

Ill try and explain the one i made several years ago. First i burried a half of a 55 gal barrel (the half that had a lid) and then i dug about a 10 ft trench and used clay pipe like they use for septic drainfieldsat the end of the trench i put an old upright freezer cut a hole in the drum and in the freezer for the claypipe.cut a vent hole in the side of the freezer near the top for smoke to escape put your wood in the pit put the lid on and you can customize the smoker anyway you want. drilling holes in the lid helps with getting air to the coals. You would think the heat would melt the plastic in the freezer but it doesnt as there is hardly any heat and mainly smoke, also the freezer is handy because it had metal shelves for racks
