Shipping frozen meat question
Does anyone know what the rules or laws are about shpping frozen game meat. For example, suppose I want to ship 20 LBS of elk meat to a friend. This is elk meat from an elk I killed during a legal hunting season. I would pack the meat in a styrofoam box with dry ice. That ought to work to keep the meat frozen for three days. But it seems there could be various rules and/or laws against this.
Does anyone have any guidance on this?

It is tough to answer that question because various states have various rules as you stated. I suggest you contact the commercial carrier you plan to use, UPS, Fed EX, USPS etc and ask what their requirements are, they should know the rules in the various states the package would pass through and it there are any federal requirements for interstate shipment.

I would ship over night and just tell them it's perishable, no need for them to know what's in it. If your worried put a slip of paper in the box with your confirmation number or check in tag number on it, how ever your state checks you in.
