Default Is this squirrel safe to eat?

My friend and I don't know what part of the squirrel this is? We never seen this on squirrel before. I'm not sure if it's just fat surrounding the heart, but usually it's more transparent. Not bright red cottage cheese like in the shape like fins. Any ideas? Would it had been safe to eat? Thanks.

That "red cottage cheese" is the lungs.
Fry that squirrel!

When in doubt, throw it out.

As everyone else has said, those are the lungs and everything looks normal. But, being unsure, you did the right thing. Go ask someone that knows before you risk eating something that could be bad.
