Default Who uses scent control clothing? Does it Work?

I know this question has probably been asked. But I am new to this site. I just purchased the surreal(3-D) suit from Scent-Lok. I was just wandering if it will work as good as they say. Thanks in advance.

I've had my scent Loc suite for two years now.
And yes they do work.

Well you obviously think they do or you wouldn't have bought it.

They do exactly what the manufacturers want them to do...

Make money...

Welcome aboard Jamie!

I have used Scent-Lok clothing for 3 years and have been very impressed with it. I still shower and wash other cloths with scent free soap as an added percaution.

I do not pay attention to the wind when hunting and have been visibly busted due to the wind since using Scent-Lok.

good luck.

Are you saying that you still get busted even using the scent lok? Your statement is not very clear.

Thanks,

Mike

I bet Todd just left out the word "not." Anyway, one thing I just learned is that you should NOT use any type of cover scent w/Scent-Lok clothing.....apparently, the Scent-Lok can only absorb so much scent, and with an abundance of cover scent around, the garment will work overtime absorbing your cover scent. Interesting!

How would anyone know if they worked? If a deer doesn't smell you, does that mean the suit was the reason? Circumstantial evidence is not proof. I have never used any scent elimination (other than soap) and I've had many deer come into my stand from down wind. If at the time, I was wearing orange underwear, I could just as easily claim that orange underwear is responsible for this.

Personally, I think it's a money making marketing blitz. Unless you're sealed in plastic with a carbon filtered respirator to control your breath, I would bet they can smell you if the wind is right. That said, it certainly doesn't bother me that anyone uses one. Myself, I'll use common sense methods of keeping myself and my clothes clean and continue to monitor the wind. This has gotten me a dozen or more shot opportunities on bucks every year. Miraculously, it has been done without any scent lok suits.

I've never used the suits myself and have no plans to get one but I do know several people that swear by them.

After the first few years of hunting I realized how important scent was to a deer and I was winded often. Since then I do everything I can to go into the woods scent free. First, I wash all my hunting clothes including underwear, socks, hats, gloves and even the towel and wash cloth for my shower in scent free laundry detergent and keep them in a sealed container. I shower before going out with scent free soap and use speed stick unscented deoderant on arm pits, crotch, and feet as these are the most odor prone areas. I scrub my boots with s/f laundry detergent and put a little baking soda under the footbed. That's about as scent free as you can get.

Now for the wind, I don't worry about which direction the wind is blowing because it constantly changes direction. Just this morning as first light broke the wind was out of the east. Thirty minutes later it was out of the south. I've had very few day's when the wind blew the same direction for over an hour, much less all day.

Instead of wind I try to use thermals. In the morning I like to hunt near the top of the ridge so the thermals carry scent up. In the afternoon I try to hunt in a low area because the air usually settles which carrys scent downward.

It's been 4 years since a deer has winded me. Last year during bow season I had 4 bucks at my stand within 30 yards. One came less than 6 feet from the tree I was in and never knew I was in the world.
