alfalfa food plot
im giong to be planting an alfalfa plot here in the next week or so, and we only have so much, but i can always buy more if need be, but i was wondering what would be the ideal size of a plot for a herd of deer that is probably about 10-12 deer in size. (i now have enough for about half an acre)

Based on what I've seen, with a good lush stand, up to an acre would take care of those deer easily. I would however stick a "cage" in the middle of the plot to monitor usage and browse level. Good luck with your management goals.

RE: alfalfa food plot
IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE NATURAL BROWSE THAT THE DEER HAVE IN YOUR AREA. IF THERE IS A LOT OF NATURAL STUFF FOR THE DEER IE, ACORNS, NATURAL CLOVER FIELDS AND SUCH. YOUR DEER PROBABLY WON'T WEAR THAT SIZE OF A PLOT DOWN. BUT ON THE OTHER HAND IF THERE ISN'T A LOT OF FOOD THEY WILL MOW IT DOWN LIKE A TORO.
