rubber boots leaving scent behind

I beleive one of the most important things to bowhunting being as scent free as possible although I also beleive it is almost impossible to be scent free yourself. I on the other hand think it is more important to play the wind when hunting and not leave behind any scent to tip deer off that you are in the woods. It is impossible in most instances to not cross deer trails on the way to stand. I have tried several defferent boots the last being the lacrosse alphaburly sport. They are bubber on the outside and neopreme inside to be light and comfortable. I have had great luck so far w/ them but yesterday I had a 3 point cull buck I was wanting to take out of the area come up to the area I walked in and bust me. I think the problem is that I kicked the boots off to take an old foot warmer out of the boots and maybe in the process my sock touched my boot and got sweat on it. This ticks me off to no end. I also keep them in a rubber maid tub when not in use and have never put them on in the car or warn them anywhere but hunting. Do you think that it is possible to sweat through the boots or is this stupid. This really ticks me off.

Please respond with tips!!!!!

I don' t think it' s possible to have sweated through the rubber unless there' s a hole in it somewhere.

At the same time, I don' t think any material is completely 100% scent proof no matter what people say. Sometimes you' re just going to get busted. That' s just how hunting goes.

I' ve had deer walk down the same trail I walked in on while wearing my leather boots and never bat an eye. Then I' ve had deer cross a trail I walked on in rubber boots and freeze up solid.

One thing I' ve found that works well for me is simply to spray some Scent Shield on my rubbers before heading out. Haven' t had a deer pick up my scent this year.

i have to agree with JZarr i have the same set of boots and i don' t believe you can sweat through them, i am also a stickler for scent elimination, the last thing i do before leaving my truck is to spray myself down with scent eliminator including my boots. you just can' t eliminate all the scent, what about your hat, face mask, gloves, it goes on and on, spray is the cheapest insurance.

I' m with you I don' t think you can sweat through rubber, it' s just a stuppid thought. I will just spray down good w/ scent elimination spray and try not to touch the boots. This is just a one time thing I haven' t had any trouble until yesterday and it just ticked me off. I had 2 mature bucks walk right down the same trail I walked in and never batted an eye just 2 days ago and killed a nice 8 point last Thursday w/ him standing in the trail I walked in on when I shot.

i agree that scent free is impossible, but ive found a product that seems to get u a lil closer. its by knight and hale and it goes on ur boots and it seems to work after usin it i havent had a deer sniff my tracks. idk the exact name but it works.

How about this thought.. If you sweat in your boots and then store them in a closed rubber container the sweat smell is coming out of the boot and is all over the outside of the boots now too. I like to store my rubber boots outside, I put them under a pine tree to keep dry, however I am hunting out back on my own property. The scent sprays are cheap insurance that do work and I go thru a lot of it.

Has anyone tried just using baking soda and water? It is supposed to work very well. Somone told me that is all the comercial sprays are anyway. Before the first hunt of the season I did scrub my boots down with baking soda water but did not have the confidence to keep doing it all season. Help..can anyone verify if this works?

Good point. I always leave my boots outside after the hunt to " air them out" . After a certain period of time I think bring them back in and store them in a closed container with some natural-scent items such as leaves, pine cones, etc...

I am on my 2nd pair of rubber boots, and I think they are an absolute necessity for bowhunters... I will take someone in the woods with me without them... Maybe a lil over board, but hey... But I also spray Red Fox urine on the bottom of them right after I cross an creeks, and just before I enter the woods... This takes away any scent that may be on them... and I have yet to have a deer pickup my scent... At least that I left on the ground...
