It just goes to show what happens when hunting becomes a contest and a measuring contest rather than recreation and enjoyment.

What a shame a beautiful buck wasted by a poacher.

Funny , the article didn't mention any hunting contest , just another guy with no morals who thinks he's better than the rest of us , rules don't apply to him , what goods a trophy deer if you have to lie and make up the hunt. The guy that poaches a buck on the side of the road or the guy in the story doesn't shoot the animal because of a contest , they shoot them to satisfy their own greedy need to aquire a trophy buck without doing the hard work- greedy and lazy

Blessed, you don't know much about wildlife criminals. If that deer would not have been a record setting buck or close to it, it would probably be walking today. The drive to kill the biggest and the best or simply to succeed and be known as a great hunter is the motivating factor in many if not most wildlife violations. Actually, the article did mention measuring, it gave the raw score and called the animal a new record.

It's true ,I don't know much about wildlife criminals except that like other criminals they lack the morals and the work ethic to do the right thing. Unfortunately that animal did die because he was a trophy buck but he was not part of any buck hunting contest.sorry I read the thoughts towards hunting contest and it's the second as gun control .guns don't kill people and hunting contests don't create poachers .the is absolutely nothing wrong with hunting buddies hunting together and competing .you can't really tell me if we go fishing together won't you hope we both catch fish but secretly don't you hope to catch more than me .it's just that there's nothing wrong with our competitive nature or friendly competition , what's wrong is some people weren't raised right and lie cheat and steal .guns make us safer and we should be proud of our animals. I want to share my hunting with others and hope they do the same, God bless and hope I don't offend anyone , be safe

Actually, Rockport this, "The drive to kill the biggest and the best or simply to succeed and be known as a great hunter is the motivating factor in many if not most wildlife violations", has nothing to do with vehicle theft. That analogy doesn't apply. I blame the clown who killed the deer and gave a valid motivation for the crime and most other wildlife crimes.
