When you say hunt from the ground are you sitting or stalking you may want to check your approach and make sure of the wind direction, also if they are appearing in the same spot you may want to move your setup if it is a ground blind. Make sure of your scent free as possible and you may try a fawn bleat to try and lure them closer, hope this helps and Good Luck....

i guess i could be a little more detailed. i walk into the woods, find a nice stump to sit on, usually near a tree and some brush so i can hide my ugly a$$, i clear the ground im standing on from leaves and sticks in the event i stand up, turn around, kneel down, strech to one side to see around a tree, do a hand stand, whatever... i move the leaves and sticks so i make no noise while sitting there (i tend to be a little clumsy at times) and i just wait, constantly listening and looking all around for movement.

I think getting a tree stand would help your odds a great deal!

GOOD LUCK!

I hunt from the ground the majority of the time, the wind is the most crucial factor, the second is cover, you need to get into a thick area and cut shooting lanes or make a blind out of branches and the such. To me the ultimate thrill is taking a deer from the ground, but even with the wind in your favor, if the deer catches one movement it is over with 70-80 % of the time.

True story - a friend we hunt with shot a nice 8 pointer a few years back one night. Got a good hit on it, but decided to let it lay overnight just to be sure. Came back the next morning, tracked it across a cornfield right to a highway. He figured the deer went across the road so he went over to look for blood. A few minutes later a cop pulls up to see what he' s doing. He says " Looking for a deer I shot last night." The cop says " A nice 8 pointer?" " Yeah" he responds.

Well, turns out it got smacked by a car and the guy who was driving the car took the deer. The kicker is, the cop wouldn' t give my buddy the name of the guy who hit it so he could at least try to see the rack, if not get his hands on it.

To this date he maintains it was the biggest buck he ever shot.

Tell me that doesn' t suck!
