I have been told to shoot right above the hips. If you take out the use of their legs they cannot run to take flight and not run at all for that matter.

That was the shot I put on my fall gobbler,right thru his hips. Man did that do a number on 'em,he flopped and beat about 20 yards out and then lay still.... dead in seconds.
