Default scrape?

I am hunting over a scrape that has not been pawed yet this year in nw pa. It is located about 300yard off a field just above a hemlock bottom on a hillside. A few small buck have walked to it stopped sniffed the ground and moved on (11-2) . They never pawed the ground or licked the overhead branches at all. This area was all torn up last year when i found it on 11-9-10. Not sure what to make of it. I did have a trail camera on it during the end of september and half of october and noticed the same reactions. I did get a couple of larger bucks on the cam. Just can't understand why they visit the area buy show none of the classic licking, pawing ect. Any thoughts???
