Default My brothers first buck (almost)

Well my brother and I started hunting the same year. He is 2 years older than me and has never killed a deer. Last year he started hunting with me again and I talked him into shooting a doe just to find out my scope mounts were loose. No doe.
This past saturday we went down the farm and I put him in the good spot and left him. My dad killed a doe from the same exact tree last weekend. We had planned on leaving at 9 because we were heading to the beach so at 0830 I text him to see if he had seen anything. He hadn't so I told him I was going to try to push one his way. Well after the half mile hike I got the phone back out and saw where he had messaged me 5 minutes after our last conversation. It read "just scared a monster 10 away." Once we got up with each other I got the full story. He said it came in from his 3 o'clock walking right at him. He first spotted it after my last text and it was only 20 yards away. He kept reaching for his bow slowly and turning his body slowly so he would be in posistion to shoot. When it got within 10 yards of him it lifted its head looked right at him put his head back down then trotted away. He was so pumped from the encounter he was still shaking when i was talking to him and he was all grins. Even though he didn't get a shot it was still a hunt to remember. I told him I would send him a picture of it this weekend !!!!!
He said it was still in velvet too. Isn't it a little late for one too still have that?
And before people start saying no cell phone in the woods if we had been chatting on the radio he probably wouldn't have seen it at all!

I've had that happen before. Last year a had a nice 10 run right down a trail and stop right under my tree and i guess it smelled me so it took off.
