Default Fletching contact with QAD ultra rest

ive been to the archery shop 3 times and spent probably 5 or 6 hours there total trying to get my rest to work without getting fletching contact. i bought the ultra rest hunter from them.

with the **** vane up, i get two lines underneath the two down feathers where you can see the rest hits it...i have also lost like 3 vanes...and ive never had that happen with my 2 prong rest. there are also yellow marks on the rest itself where i can see it is hitting.

it says on the insructional video to set the nocking point 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch high of square. anyone know about this? the guy at the archery shop said that is wrong and will make the bow shoot bad.

so he tried to re tune it and ended up moving the rest very far to the inside, which means the pins of my sight are pretty darn close to the riser. it still wasnt getting bullet holes when he was done tuning it...and there is still fletching contact.

any help with this would be much appreciated...very frustrating so far..

1. See if you can find a different pro shop. The bow should tune without such gross adjustments.

2. Download and read the Easton tuning guide. Paper tuning can be very frustrating. I think you will find broadhead tuning more useful

http://www.eastonarchery.com/pdf/tuning_guide.pdf

3. What is the bow draw length/weight, arrow length/shaft/spine and point weight?

The contact is probably because the pull chord is too short.Check and see if the rest comes to the fully upright position right at the last inch of draw.If it comes up before that, you need to lengthen the cable.

You should never adjust centershot way in or way out just to get a good tear in paper.

An arrow on most bows will be dead level but there are some that need to be set 1/8" high because of nock travel issues.

Did you get the hunter model? If so this is due to the rest bouncing back up as it does not have the anti bounce back feature as the higher cost models by QAD.
I had this same exact issue with my Limbsaver DZ32 bow that the rest would bounce back up before the arrow passed all the way through. I now use the NAP Scizzor rest with no problems and when they total fletching clearance they mean it. No i dont work or do anything for them lol

EDIT: I just seen you did buy the hunter and im 99% sure this is your issue.

QAD Ultra Rest Pro HD on my Z7. Not one issue and it's setup 1/8" high.

Like others have said. Make sure the rest is coming up fully and there is no bounce back.

It sounds like the launcher arm doesnt come up all the way at the last part of your draw . Theres a lock up position and then when you draw it will pull it back and be straight up . When your at full draw does the marks line up at the back of the rest ? If not you need to put a little more tension or move cord a little lower . Good luck

I had the same problem. Here's how to fix it-
1. Use the TL1 fork instead of the one that comes on it.It provides about an extra 1/8 of drop.
2. The pull cord should be tied just about level with the bottom of the handle/grip when the bow is not drawn back
3. Make sure the rest is coming to the FULL UP (90 degree hard stop) about 1 1/2 inches from full draw.
I had my pro shop do the fix for me.

This video shows a correctly timed QAD.If the rest is fully upright before this, then it is timed incorrectly. It also shows the advantage of the LD models.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PF6Bfm9PwDM

The nock height is critical when using a fallaway. If it is set too low,the arrow can hit the rest and if set to high,it can hit the arm above your rest and slam it into the rest launcher arms.

Also,if the the nock height is wrong, you have an arrow not coming off the bow straight and being pushed either downward or upward causing a very u8nforgiving situation.

Here is a video that shows what a low nocking point can cause and the rest gets the blame for a poorly setup bow.

First get the HD model, the Hunter model is harder to tune. The TL1 launcher is also a good place to start. Also the cord should be fastened to the "Down Cable" at the bottom of your grip to make it flip out of the way sooner. The lower you attach the cord on the "Down Cable" the faster the launcher will flip down. Obviously your shop has no idea what they are doing with that rest. 1/8" high should be plenty for your know, tune with the Easton Guide or at least paper tune it.
