Default Goin Squirrel Hunting with my Bow

So I've been reading about people here going after squirrels with their bow and up until I read that it was actually something commonly done I didn't even think it was possible.

Well, since I have come to find out that deer hunting in NH is absolutely abysmal, I thought I'd try my hand at these little critters when I'm not shooting 3d. It's at least a great excuse to just be out in the woods too.

So, any tips, nuggets of wisdom, advice, fortune cookie sayings?

get some small game heads, you'll lose too many arrows if you don't have them. other than that, have fun!

Yes, I am planning on getting judo points.

Now please forgive me for this question, but do you need to get some sort of license to hunt small game?

A hunting license with a habitat stamp for my state. Not sure about other states. I squirrel hunt with my 22 and I'd love to use the bow but Ill lose every arrow I'd think. All my shots are high in the trees

I was thinking of trying this....using my tree stand to get up so I can shoot down on the squirrels.

I actually shot a squirrel last year during deer season with a 2 blade Rage head. It was the end of my morning sit and this squirrel was walking about 15 yards out and below me. Unbelievably, the arrow hit him right behind his little shoulder, perfect shot. The rage made a mess of him:-)

My son is 14 and has been squirrel and rabbit hunting with his bow for 2 yrs i am amazed at how many he gets He is a really good shot. Its awesome practice as they are tougher to draw on then you think and dont stand still too long. He only shoots when they are on ground w/ judo pts and occasionally an arrow gets broke on tree etc I think it will make him better when he has the opportunity to hunt deer this yr so good luck and have fun

Yeah, the up in the trees shots are the only thing that worries me (I don't have a treestand and I enjoy just creeping through the woods too).

But if they're on the ground, it should be pretty interesting with judo points.
