The terrain that you hunt, the type of animal that you plan to hunt, and the distance that you're comfortable shooting will determine if you "need" a range finder.
For example, if you're only going to sit in a tree stand hunting whitetail deer, and you have the time to step off and either mark or memorize distances and won't be shooting long range, then you'd be just fine without one. BUT if you're going on a spot and stalk/open terrain hunt out west and you have the ability to take long range shots, then you'd be better off with one.

What kind of PSE did you get? I bought a new PSE madness right in the middle of deer season and killed two deer with it the first week I had it and i've already done two robin hoods with it. Its a great shooting bow. Most PSE's are.

As far as rangefinders... I didn't get one until I got my new pse. Before I just had a smaller bow that was limited on shooting distance and my max shot was probably 25-30 yards so its a little easier to guess when your out hunting. But with this new pse I can shoot 45-50 yards easily if I wanted to and really needed to so I got a range finder. Both deer that I got I used the range finder on and both were dead on perfect heart and double lung shots. One shot was at 35 yards and the other at 42.

I hate to hit the woods without it.
