Default Scouting/Hunting in Northern Climates

As I am new to bowhunting I have been reading a lot of helpful books and watching instructional dvd's to educate myself on effective tactics for going after deer. However, since I am from Alberta, and most books are written in the US there seems to be some modifications I have to make. For example a couple books I read recently talked in detail about post-season scouting, but at the end of the chapter said "if you live in northern climates with freezing conditions and snow, post season scouting will not help you as deer will change their habits". But then give no direction on what tactics to employ.

Any suggestions on what to do in different times of the year to prepare for the next open season (which is Sept.9th).

I would check with local biologist they may have info or be able to steer you to publications to read up on the topic.
