Default Deer decoys: Buck or doe?

Which type of decoy have you had luck with? Buck decoy? Doe?

Also, has anyone had luck with the 2D type? (Renzo type)

Well that really depends on whether your hunting the south side or north side of the park.
In the case of the South Side use a Buck Decoy
( Since all the bucks there are Gay Anyways)

I'll bring my 2D Doe Decoy for ya tommorrow

I've used a doe decoy with success. Actually a McKenzie target. It was all shot up and my father and I decided to patch it up and paint it to look a little more realistic.

We also drilled out a large hole in the rear end and inserted a 35mm film canister. In the canister was a few cotton balls soaked in doe-in-heat scent.

We have both taken bucks with our decoy. This was several years ago. I have to admit i haven't hunted with a decoy for several years. Too heavy and too much hassle.

The times when we killed deer we had it set up in areas where we have seen bucks chasing does in a field.

Be aware, when using a doe decoy, bucks will usually approach from the rear. When using a buck decoy, bucks usually approach head on. Place your stand accordingly for the best shot angle.

I had a small 4 point come in and check out my Mackenzie target the other day. Desperate time call for desperate measures. This is the first time I have used one. Its all shot up and only has 1 antler left on it. It what I use to practice on. I got that 4 point to come in range and concentrate on that and not me. It saw me but didn't care at all.

I have a Primos Scarface. Sometimes I do not put on the antlers so it looks like a doe. I have had success both ways.

I took out Deb's 2d doe decoy yesterday. (it's hard plastic and only about 1.5" wide) I saw there were some deer running around in the flooded river bottom so I put on my shaggie suit, set down the decoy and snuck up within 40 yards of the buck. He was a 1.5 year old buck that was attempting to 'tend' a doe. He was having some luck keeping her from moving much. I'm sure I could have gotten closer but I didn't want to shoot him so I kept enough distance that he wouldn't spook. Eventually they moved off and I set up the doe decoy how I wanted. I could hear deer (maybe still those two) splashing around in the water but none ever came close enough to see the decoy.

I will say, it needs a bag or something when I carry it in. It sounded like I was carrying a plastic kayak through the woods.
