Default My 2009 Kansas 8

It all finally came together the evening of Nov 2nd. I got out early in the afternoon and was looking to climb in a tree along my creek. I couldn't settle on one so I ended up just going to one of my ladderstands on the north end of a bean field that is completely enclosed by trees. I got to my ladderstand at about 2 pm. I noticed several new scrapes and rubs right in front of this stand. I was excited needless to say so I climbed on up and got ready. I realized I didn't have my phone so I got down and went all the way back to my truck to get it. I got back to the stand and got setup again.

I didn't see anything until 4 pm. A little button buck came out and fed in front of me. He then turned and went directly down wind and bedded in the beans about 30 yards away. He stays there for an hour.

At about 5 pm I text my buddy to tell him something was walking behind me. I was setup looking south into the beans with the bedding area behind me and a nice little north breeze. So I see a doe coming right to me. She passes about 10 yards to my left and I was thinking about sticking her when I looked back and saw another deer body. So I figured I'd let her go and shoot this second deer (thinking it was also a doe at the time). So I'm watching the second deer and he starts thrashing a tree behind me and then I realized what was going on. Well out he steps so I can see him. He's a nice wide mature 8 that my girlfriend and I had seen before. He follows this doe right out beside me and pops out at 17 yards. I draw on him and he just stands there perfect. I let it fly and its a prefect double lung shot. He trotted off with his doe into the beans about 35 yards. He starts to wobble and then crashes right over 35 yards from me! I was so excited as you can imagine. His doe is just standing there staring at him.

Its getting dark so I start to pack up. I hear something walking to me behind me and I get still and out pops a doe about 10 yards to my right. She comes on out and I hear another deer coming. I'm thinking no way are two shooters gonna show up. But I'll be damned if I don't look back and here comes a bigger buck then the one I just arrowed. I'm done hunting so I just enjoyed the show. This buck was a big 11. Maybe a 160" deer. He stood broadside to me watching those two does at about 12 yards. I watched him as he turned and casually followed his doe across the beans into the creek. What a good hunt.

Here's a link to the pic. I love big 8's. I love living in Kansas.
