Default Stand question?

i am thinking about repainting a couple stands there rusted out lookin,how long must i wait to put the stands out and is there a spray paint that is better then the others for any reasons or what?

At this point in the game, I believe I'd wait until after deer season to paint them. Besides, even though I'm colorblind, I believe a rust color would blend in well.
