Rubsize Question!

Ok.. I know opinions vary on this.. but here's a question...
Does the size of the rub usually depend on the ANTLER SIZE? or AGE of teh DEER?

For example , If I have a 100" 2 1/2 yr old and a 100 " 3 1/2 yr old who makes the bigger rubs?

Reason I ask, is I have quite a few Beer can size rubs , but the biggest buck I have on camera looks to be a 2 1/2 yr old 6 pointer... no g3's about 13" spread.. I find it hard to believe he's making all the bigger rubs.. I have lots of torn up 3/4 size beer cans too...

I know there is a BIG ONE in the area, as its been seen, but I have yet to see him or get a pic of him...

Whats your take?

If a 100" 2.5 yr old and a 100" 3.5 yr old have the same antler size....its not the age of the deer that determines the size of rub, it the antlers, so based on your theory, both could make the same exact same size rub. Big deer (antler wise) will rub both small and big trees, little guys will usually stick with little trees.

in my years of bowhunting i have only seen lil bucks rub big trees a time or 2. i would have to say its more based on body size than anything, bigger older deer use bigger trees for more resistance to help strenghthen there neck muscles for the could be battles. just my opinion

Last year I watched a forkie work over a sapling and snap it off. I had read that long tined bucks can snap off trees when the sapling gets between the tines. This guy's forks weren't big enough, he used both sides to snap it off.

Then, this year, a friend had a trail cam set to video on a thigh sized cedar that was getting shredded. Biggest buck he got on cam was a 110 inch deer.

Sometimes rubs are a community effort which makes them look "hotter" than they are.

Thus, I take rubs with a grain of salt.
