Question Should I cut'em?

Hey guys, I've got some antlers for a deer I killed in 2007 rifle season that I want to use as rattling antlers. I used them last year and they worked pretty good but they have one problem, the browtines are just too damn long! When I try to rattle aggressively I bang the hell out of my knuckles . I'm thinking about cutting off the G1's but I really don't want to do that. What you you guys do? Get some artificials? Here is a pic of him, he scored a 113.75.

I had the smae problem with a pair of sheds I use so I trimmed them off, saves my knuckles but doesn't affect sound that I notice.

if you dont want to do it... dont do it! if you do it won't effect the sound at all, deer get points broken off all the time.

Chop em off. Your hands will be glad you did.

If they are dedicated rattlers, cut them off. Or, one thing you can do is rattle with the antlers so they are banging together like they would be if they were from the same side. Does that make sense?

I'm sitting here playing with the antlers and I do see what you are saying. It's actually a pretty good idea, just need to make the cord that connects them a little longer. Thanks YooperMike!

I'd cut them. If you notice rattling antlers you buy have no brow tines. It'll save your thumbs and knuckles the pain. If you are uneasy with cutting them then just tape them as someone else stated.

I'm not sure of how you rattle, but there should really only be one big clash, then you sort of jingle them together a bit, then sharply slide them apart. I've seen some people "rattle" and its just a long session of big clashes with the horns. Unless, the whitetails you hunt are actually rams, a whitetail fight typically has one big clash to begin the fight, then they sort of move horns within the fight, then break apart. This entire process may happen a few times during a fight, but its not just a bang bang bang type clash. Hopefully that makes sense..

Not saying you do this, but just thought I would add.
