Default Texas guys need some help..Mesquite trees

The area I hunt has a spieces of trees called "Russian Olive" that is very similar to your larger mesuite trees. For the life of me I can find very few in the right place that are suitable for a partable strap on stand. What do you guys use in your trees for tree stands. I have used the old two 2x4s and a piece fo plywood too many times. I need something portable and is accepted in any tree no matter how crooked or twisted they get.

These trees do no have alot of limbs at the trunk but the ends of the limbs are super bushy. When I trim shooting lanes out of the tree. It seems that I become naked around the stand area. What is the best way to trim back so you can manuver your bow without leaving yourself naked. Thanks

I dont use a strap on stand i use a ground blind and often if you get the branch and break it and bend it to the side and tie it up or something. in my opinion you cant strap a stand on most mesquites they dont really grow straight. Id say find one you can get back in and just trim the bare necessities. Good luck

I've bowhunted several places in Tx. North & South & always take a ladder stand (15') & a ground blind. Shot Deer & hogs out of the ladders. Sometime I have to take a section out & only 10-11 feet up but it's always worked....I also have to just TIE them in to basically nothing but THICK brush on some of those so called trees in South Tx. I use ladders at home for Deer & Do the same at home if I have too. Killed 2 Whitetails at home last year & only 10' up & 2 hogs out of 15' in Oklahoma.

well if it is heavy wooded and the tree's are big your best bet is on the ground..... but if they are short trees and you have a tripod, thats is a good way. we had a spot in cisco texas, lots mesquite, and we just cut a lane out of the trees and you post up behind some tree's, jus over the top so you can see the lane and the deer used the road we built to walk on, while clearin we did leave 1 exit on each end of the roa, longwayz, and so they would end up comin out there, but they eventually made a different exit bout 20 yards from where we wanted em too...we put in a request for a stoplight with the county but they said no..gl

Welcome to my world. I make lots of ground blind out of stuff I find in the immediate area.

Thanks for the responses. This area is virtually impossible to hunt out of a ground blind. As it is a swamp and has 7 foot tall cat tails. I gotta get some elevation. I saw a few years back Ted was hunting out of something that strapped to a tree limbs that had two elbows that were all adjustable to level it. Pretty much a plastic tractor seat. But for the life of me I can't find it.

I think Big Game make a tripod that is light enought to carry in and out now. You might check something like that out.
