Default rangefinder issue.

I bought the nikon rifleman rangefinder today at gander for 308. Nice rangefinder but i think i bought the wrong one. Will this one compasate for the angle for bow hunting. If not is there one somewhere around 300 bucks that will do angles for both guns and bow. Will this work for shotgun with the angle thing. Can i use it for bow hunting with the angle thing off.

No the rifleman does no have angle compensation. You can go back and buy the Nikon Archery Pro or whatever its called, but I believe that only ranges up to 99 yards, so if you plan to use this for rifle season it would useless at longer distances. I have the nikon 550 or soemthing.. got it for a reasonable price.. doesnt have angle compensation.. Well, it does, but its just me ranging a tree at the same height I am

*Edit, just checked cabelas and I was wrong. The Nikon Rifleman 550 DOES have angle compensation. I could have sworn the Nikon 550 did not have angle comp... May have been an older model...?

You don't need angle compensation at the short distances for bow hunting. As fingerz42 pointed out, just range a tree at the same height you're shooting from and no compensation is needed.

Actually, the angle compensator would be beneficial for a guy who is hunting in severe terrain, say needing to figure out how to aim on a severe downhill or uphill angle, but for most of our applications, we really don't need it.

OHBow, it definitely has its place, i'm not arguing that. In MOST cases though, I feel its unnecessary. I hunt pennsylvania woods though. For a place that has extremely steep hillsides or dropoffs, it would DEFINITELY help. I just think people should take into account what type of landscape they will be hunting before shelling out an extra $80 for the angle compensation.
