Thumbs up My buddy just called from his archery Elk hunt!

My good friend Jeff is down near Durango Colorado on his first elk hunt. Yesterday they called in a nice bull late in the day on the 3rd day of the hunt and he was able to shoot it twice. They were unsure of shots so the opted to back out as he thought he hit it a bit back. Today they had to hike in 10 miles to get back to the spot where he shot the bull. They found him 100 yds. away. The shots turned out being really good and both would have killed him. The only downside is a bear tore the carcess all up and the guide said the meat was not good. The even cut the shoulders off and hiked away from the carcess to make sure it was bad, and it was. The bear really got into him. It ended up being a 5x5, he is going to send me a pic later. He is super happy of course but at the same time disappointed the meat is bad. His guide told him they did the right thing by backing out and he would do it the same way everytime when unsure of the hit. All in all he got his first bull on public land at that. I am super proud of him. Just thought I would share. I got a quick 10 minute phone call from a mountain top telling me the tale. Just thought I would share it with you guys!
