Default What should i do?

So guys im kind of in a pickle. Ive got a small woods that i can hunt thats maybe 5-10 acres. Ive been seeing tons of deer coming out of it and into the bean field every evening. This ground is surrounded by public ground. Theres good trees in it for climbers. Ive only gone in tis woods once and didnt get to look around to much because i was running a bunch of deer out of it. How should i go about getting into it to hunt? Here is an aerial photo of the woods. The two black marks are where the deer usually come out at.

I don't think I would try to get in it per say as I would be trying to hunt the edges of it where you know deer are coming out to feed. Set yourself up on a known travel corridor just inside the edges. That is what I would do hunting a parcel of land that small. I have a spot kind of like the one you describe and I focus on the edges so not to disturb the deer to much. Have had great luck doing so.

Enter with the wind blowing your stink away from the beds. Never walk that tree line with the wind blowing your stink into the beds. . Like sr77 mentioned. Dont go deep, stay on the frindge. That way you will get shots on the deer as they stage to head out into the field. Hunt the staging areas. Id only hunt when the wind is right. Mornings would be ok. as long as the wind is bowing from the beds. Afternoon will be fine as long as the wind is not blowing into the field. I guess im saying, the wind is the key. I hunt a spot that is just about identical to that. One of my best spots. I secure stands in the summer for every sitiuation the wind can give. I can hunt it just about any time, with just about any wind.

I wouldn't go near there in the AM's, either (while they're still feeding in that field).

Default Your quandry

I believe I'd only hunt it when the wind is from the W or NW and would sit only on the field edge just South of their entry/exit point.

Gotta agree that it is only an evening stand due to deer on the field.

Good luck!

sorry- i disagree 100%. I would only hunt this piece in the a.m. I would enter the woods from the road on the opposite side of the timber from the beanfield. (west side?) If you enter very early from that roadside the deer will be in the field and unaware of your entry. that bein said do not go too close to the field or go in with the wind blowin toward the field. Both of these will surely alert deer. As for afternoon hunting, unless you are hunting on the very edge of the woods with a favorable wind i would NOT enter this area!!!!

That is what I was thinking. The morning he could enter from the road. This is one of those places that you should not use a flashlight to get in. Keep the wind in your favor and a quiet entry is a must! No banging treestands around!

No doubt-you need to get in there EARLY!!! well before deer start filtering back in from nite feeding. As razor said i would try to be very quiet-have your stand up so all you need to do is climb up. I would use a green or red headlamp-they will not spook the deer and let you see where you are walking so you dont go crashing in there!!

IMHO, this hits the nail right on the head. With this ground being surrounded by public ground, I am sure the deer have it pinned as a safe haven. Going into in the afternoon and bumping deer will quickly destroy that.

Slide in early in the morning and wait for them to return to the beds, if you must hunt the pm, stay on the very edge and only do so with the perfect wind. Good luck!

The ONLY way I enter through the woods is if I KNOW EXACTLY where they're bedding. You're taking a helluva chance stinkin' that area up if you walk right through their bed.

5-10acres????? That IS a bedding area. And, with crops in the field, you can bet they're using it.

Hunt it any way you like. Just my opinion.
