Default Do you use decoys?

Hey guys, I was at Farm & Fleet and they had a 2-D doe decoy on sale so I picked one up. Its just a flat sheet of thick plastic that has a doe printed on both sides. Anyways, I have never used a decoy so I am wondering from those who have, when and how do you use them? Early season, late season, or only in the rut? Do you use scents with them? Any ideas or tips would really help. Thanks

I got a primos decoy for Christmas last year. I have not used it enough to be giving advice, but I would not suggest using it until closer to the rut. I used mine during a mid January bow hunt. The first day out I was running late and did not carry it in. I had a buck stop for my grunt call, he looked all around me for a deer and would not come within range. I think if I would have had a decoy out, things would have been different. The next day I used the decoy. I did not see him again, but man did some does and spike check that thing out. I got a lot of enjoyment out of watching them stomp and head bob looking at the decoy. Good luck with yours.

I used one last year for the first time ever. Didnt have any luck with it, but that is not saying they dont work, because I think they do work. I only used it a couple of times, so I dont think I used it enough to say anything bad about them.

If anyone knows of a small-ish buck decoy.....that is pretty light.....let me know. I'd love to give this a try, this year.

Thanks.

Good post.

Here's the Delta that I've been using for the past few years:

It's not bad to pack in as long as you're not packing in a stand as well.

I dont get mine out until the bachelor groups begin to break up. Then I use them only in open food sources where I have seen those groups spend a lot of time.

I used the Boss last year a couple times. I had coyotes run from it and called them back, well one of them to an almost shot.

I had a button buck come to it. Here's pictures and video of the button buck.
