I take my bow to my shop at least once before hunting season for its yearly check up. Strings can stretch, rests can get knocked around, etc. I have him go through it to make sure everything is in order.

i continuely shoot my bow year round so it forces me to check it about every 3 months to make sure everything is in order.
i would still get everything looked at at least once a year before season comes in.
