Sounds like a hell of a dog putting it's life on the line for it's Family!!!! I think people need to realize that when we enter these animals territories we ARE seen as prey, and sometimes these sorts of things WILL happen. Like it or not, that's the REALITY of it.

Hiking on a trail in California without a weapon and knowing how to use it is crazy nowadays...I have seen more and more cats in the last 5 years here than I have seen in my entire life...they are all over the Cleveland NF and the San Bernardino and Angeles NF these days...California needs to smarten up and take some of these cats out, or they will over run this place. When hunting here in California just remember you are probably the one being hunted or stalked at some point.

That is awesome..But also goes to show why everyone should carry a substantially calibered side arm.
