Default What are the top 3 things you look for in a flashlight for hunting?

There are a lot of options out there. What does everyone want in a flashlight?

A mini maglight works great for me and is rock solid and affordable. I also like the green light hat clips for my protection when enterring or leaving the woods in less than full light situations.

An on switch, a bulb, and a handle.

What am I using it for?

The light I take in with me in the AM's and PM's....I don't require much from (except small in size and "adequate" in light produced to get me in, set up and out).

I've got other lights I use to get me back in for a tracking job, but the requirements there are only to get me to the POI and be able to see generally well enough to follow a good blood trail.

Where the rubber meets the road on a sparse blood trail, i want as many lumens as I can get in a small package (one I won't get tired of lugging).

I also see merit in large lights for grid searching.

That's why my tracking kit contains a LOT of different choices.

My Brother is in the Marine Corps, and they get Flashlights called Surefire and they are the best light I have ever seen, They are bright, The batteries last long and they are very light weight and portable. I have never seen a better flash light in my life. I have one and don't think I would ever use anything else. http://www.surefire.com/Flashlights

EDIT: I put the website in there for you guys these lights are expensive but you really get what you pay for with these things.

I like a spotlight function, flood/broadlight function, and brightness.

walking in and out in the dark i dont require much...

usually carry a small LED flashlight or a mini mag (aaa or aa..whatever i grab that day)

for tracking, i use my miners style coon hunting light...got enough light to see well clear upto the high side of the bulb and the spotlight which will blind you if you point it at your feet...

also always have my surefire in the truck...overkill for walking to a stand IMO...all i need is enough light to barely see a couple foot ahead of me...
