Default Passion

About a year ago, I submitted another post on the same topic, but this has a different spin. I will go with the assumption that if you are on this site, then you are passionate about hunting, especially archery. If you are passionate about hunting, then you must be a passionate person. I have found out that passionate employees typically exceed at work. To test this hypothesis, in your performance reviews what do you typically receive?

I would say I have exceeded in all of my past "jobs" but the one im at now, I dont really care about so i would say I meet and follow, but that is about it lol!!! No extra effort, just go in, go home, and pic up my check. I picked exceeded, but how many people are really going to say they dont meet their standars of work

I think you may be onto something, but I think there are either 3 guys who have jobs where they're not evaluated, or they don't do well. I think it's a bit more than you assume though. I think it's more about a passion for doing well in all aspects, and putting forth the energy to come on here and seek and share information, just as those who are exceeds or exception in their job because they put forth the extra effort there.

Then you get beyond "passionate" into the obsession arena, and there is just a fine line between the two, which I think many of us have likely waivered back and forth on, myself included right now as I'm getting ready to make a trip WEST. Sometimes I catch myself spending more time playing on the computer, shooting my bow, etc, and not dedicating enough time to getting things done around the house or maybe not taking that extra couple minutes to explain the "WHOLE Physiology thing" to one of the nurses working for me who asks a question because I don't feel I have the energy to go into a 10minute drawn-out explanation. Sometimes I have that urge, and I'll overload them. Lately I leave them a little more hungry for answers and explanations....

I think for guys like TFox that say they've never had an evaluation, if you give yourself a "personal evaluation," you can very likely relate to this. Job satisfaction also plays a part, thats why Derek is just showing up and collecting a check!!!

Exceeds to Exceptional. I've been here 19 years and I'm tired alot of politics so if I don't lean toward exceptional, I'm making a point.

According to my recent eval, I meet or exceed espectations on all aspects of my job.
Now if I could just meet or exceed all my archery goals I'd have it made.

I'd have to agree with the statements made about "passionate" and "obsessive" folks as well. I know some thathave gone beyond passionateabout their jobs and therefor have little to no time for their "passion".

That's why I become a little more like drock around the office come Oct/Nov.

If I voluntary choose to do something, then I push to exceed or be exceptional. There is no other way for me to operate. It is in my blood to "go for the kill".

I do not have much passion when it comes to my job but I have some serious passion when it comes to archery! I work to live and it saddens me at the choices I made when I was going thru college because trust me........ my butt would be some where else than sitting in a prison listening to criminals complaining about how the man did them wrong!

Nobody likes to follow me in a given job because they know I'm the yardstick against which they'll be measured, and they will come up short. No matter what the task, by the time I move on I will have been the best at it, period.
