Dont lose your cool in the heat of the moment! ( Better ?)
Well it only seems fitting with Rob/PA Boyer spittin a bit of truth on her that i share with you gentlemen that don't have the privlidge of receivinga great publication( if your in ohio ) Ohio Outdoor News. I read an article by Steve Pollick about an evolving epidemic. He has coined theterm " hornology ". Hornology is an obsession with big antler , trophy racks , and to a greater or lesser degree, if not all of us are guilty of "horn envy". But in recent years it seems the fair chase, the stroke of luck , the journey doesnt count for much. The destination in our so-called tunnel vision has no end in sight ( without a great big rack to arrive to ). Dont get me wrong i want a big buck as much as the next guy , but in that pursuit sooner or later we arrive at a fork in the road where it sometimes seems all too easy to stray from the ethical path and head down a foggy road that once traveled is irreversible. Anyways without boring you with a lengthy read that leaves you nodding off , in the end its the friends , places , sights , smells on your journey that make it great. His article made me think a bit , ive beenwalking out of the woods, or on here rantin about not gettin it done, or just overall not happy at points in the season because of my addiction to " hornography ". No longer .
Enjoy your time in the woods with friends and family. Cause one day
while you making grand plansfueled by your obsession with " hornography" , all the greatest things , that is the journey , the comraderie , will slip by undetected.

Big Racks anymore are mostly (not entirely) about $$ spent on Leased land, food plots, land bought, etc., etc.
If you personally know a guy that kills Big Buckson a regular basis you usually can figure out why. Contrary to what many would have you believe there is No Holy Grail!!
O maybe there is. Go lease/buy some Private ground in Trophy Whitetail Heaven, quite your job, and hunt all day everyday of the season.
I'll put my money on you to kill some whopper bucks over the next couple of years
There was a reason Lee & Tiffany moved to IA instead of NC, and it had nothing to do with the climate[8D]
I think the problem with hunting isn't about hunting big bucks....its worrying about why others hunt. Some hunt for meat, and resent others for hunting big bucks and missing what hunting is all about. Big buck hunters resent meat hunters for shooting anything that walks. Bowhunters resent rifle hunters for the stereotype of being unsafe and shooting anything that walks. Rifle hunters resent bowhunters for having a MUCH longer season. Archery hunters resent crossbow hunters for not partaking in "real" archery. Dog hunters are basically resented by everyone.....baiters are cheating....the list goes on.
It isn't just big racks....it's envy from all sides. Hunting will never be struck down from the outside, it will simply impode and slowly be chipped away. Many say bowhunting or deer season will never be taken...right now no, but they won't start with the popular seasons...They start by eliminating Dove seasons, NJ bear season, CA cougar season, etc....hunting with hounds, hunting over bait...they will exploit the quarrels and differences among us until slowly nearly all hunting could be done away with. The funny part is, depending on how a movement is worded to ban a certain aspect of hunting, it can often gain a LOT of support by, get this, hunters.
Calling others out for hunting for the wrong reasons, is well, a slippery slope. If some guy wants to hunt solo and only chooses to hunt big bucks...so what...let him be. He isn't missing what deer hunting is all about just because he doesn't partake in deer camps or comraderie of hunting....he is just missing out on what YOU deem as what hunting is all about. And vice versa.
I agree hunting is about the experience more so than the end product....but is someone who thinks otherwise wrong?

You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is 'never try'
Horn porn or what ever you want to call it makes me mad when I here that term!!! Why can it not be that someone just wants to up there game to a level that is at the top??? Some guysplay football when in high school and are happy on there last game of there senior year to just play flag football with friends on sunday while others drive is to put there selfs through college and others to be the best they can be and go all the way to the pro's. So why can't some huntersthat have killed there share of little bucks and just want to push there selfs to there limits and be the best they can be without somebody calling them names and saying it must be because they don't have real jobs or it is only because they own the best property and have managed it and I could go there and kill a big buck there. The reason Lee & Tiff went to IA and not NC is a no brainer you go where the big ones are, you don't go to a trout pond and hope or expect to catch a monster shark?? Some guys just give up more than others right or wrong I don't know. I have been married for 15 years to my awesome wife and besides getting married in Vegas we have not taken a vacation togather because all my timeoff is spent on hunting and filming and she knows how much it means to me and doesn't complain. I don't hang out in bars or smoke or spend all my money on beer and I save all year just to hunt as much as I do does that make me a bad person or just a horn porn guy?? No I love the time I spend with my daughter hunting and my buddies but I also give up more than the average guy because he wants to take his wife and kids to fun park but that is him his prioritiesare with his family or work or what ever. So don't run down the guy that wants to give it his all and hold out for the big ones and spend all the time he can doing it because you can't or wont at this time.. Walt

Post of the year! And its only February! I think there are plenty of hunters that need to eat their own bowl of cheerios and quit trying to piss in everyone elses.

Sweet mother of -- i think this went in a way it wasnt intended ! FOR STARTERS GUYS I RESPECT AND ADMIRE ANY AND ALL OF YOU IN YOUR SUCCESSES. I surely wasnt tryin to knock any one and i most certainly wasnt goin for the (great divide between hunters theme ) either. The article i was speaking about was actually more in the direction of our new laws here in ohio for poaching. And how some of the guys simply get so caught up in the moment all good common sense goes out the door. The writers logic behind this is these hunters are so caught up in trying to top the next guy that he just plum goes retarded. Several of them this year alone have racked up 12,000 to 14,000 fines for these deer theyve shot. Again it was supposed to be a light hearted reminder to all my ( buddies? ) on here to take a breath sometimes , cause if your like me you've had plenty of one -sided arguments on the way home from a hunt on something you couldve/shouldve done different.
P.S. i wont be attempting to paraphraze anything ANYMORE !

The journey is 95% of "it" in my hunting world. I don't want an easy hunt. I want to work hard for it. That being said, if any of you are willing to have me hunt on your land where the big boys roam, I will be there!
I subscribe to Ohio Outdoor News and I know the article you speak of. Sure I'd love to kill big bucks with giant racks, but I hunt because
it makes me happy. Every deer is an accomplishment for me. Im sure every deer hunter falls asleep thinking of giant racks (I do), but right now
I'm just having fun and trying to learn and improve.
