Default 2009 Shedding season....

The shedding season has finally arrived in central wisconsin, found (between me and my dad) 4 on saturday, and 2 today (he is out right now and says he found 1 small shed and a large antler off of a dead deer that was still warm, about 0 degrees out right now, and where he found it we walked through the area yesterday.....will try to post a pict of that)

Saturdays finds... (the half of the eight came in at 46" and the half of the 10 was 62")

Sunday's bounty
The half of the 8 was 51 7/8" and the half of the 10 was 65"

might be a match for the 62" 5 pointer found on saturday, but there are a few things that I don't quite match up......different tine geometry and what not, but they are really close in beam length, base diameter and browtines are almost exactly the same.....

The 3 sheds that we have found in the last 2 days are in the top 10 that we have found on the property in the last 10 years.....should be all downhill from here out....[]

I like the layout in the first picture, kinda reminds me of the evolution picture that you see the monkeys turning to man...

Well, I didn't find it, but my dad did this afternoon.......it was bigger, measured it at 67 3/4", the downside of this antler was there was a deer attached to it When he grabbed the antler to move the head it popped off.

We were through this area yesterday, and when he came through there this afternoon he stumbled on this buck. Now, we had a high of 5 degrees today, and when he found the carcass it was still pliable and warm, so it couldn't have been dead very long. The deer was pretty emancipated, looked like it had a injury/wound in its hind quarters.

I saw this buck a couple weeks ago about 150 yards away in the woods, it looked like it was running through deep snow, but when I got down into the area that I saw it, I couldn't pick up his track, passed it off as misjudging where he was. In hindsight he was probably on a trail but wounded in some fashion that was making life pretty miserable.

If someone on our property would have gotten this deer it would have been close to the biggest we would have ever taken

G1 5 1/8
G2 11 1/8
G3 9 1/4
G4 1 1/4
H1 5
H2 4 3/4
H3 4 1/2
H4 4
Beam 22 3/4

Well, good news I found a shed, bad part is it is what I believe is from the buck we found dead last Sunday.

Shed I found today came in at 70 5/8" the first one was 67 3/4 (with a broken G4), guessing a 19" spread = just shy of 158"

Would have been a pretty nice buck next year I think (though for this area it was a REALLY nice buck this year)
