Default How often do you wax - your string????

I've always made sure I kept wax on my bow string but I was wondering how often is good enough. What kind of wax do you suggest and do you guys wax where the string has serving on it? Any tips on how to wax will also be appreciated. I have been using the Bohning Xccelerator wax. What do you guys think of this stuff. I just got my new Reezen this week and I want to take good care of it. Thanks for the help.

I don't think you need to wax steel cables

No need to wax the servings. I use TexTite or SealTite.

Oh, I don't know about that. I think too many guys overdo it. I too am one of those guys that hardly ever wax a string. Mine never get any fuzzies or anything. I buy good quality aftermarket strings every two years or about 10,000 shots. If during that time they don't show any wear, don't break and are stable enough that the bow never changes it's tune then what is the point?

I like to compare it to changing oil in cars. I once had a Citgo engineer tell me that changing oil every 3000 miles was a complete waste of oil and money. Just propaganda to make the oil companies money. He recommended changing the filter every 5000 miles and add a quart of oil. Then change everything at 10,000 miles. He said that oil does not lose it's properties. It just gets dirty. And this coming from a guy who's job it was to sell my company lubricants.

I think the same psychology could be applied to bow strings.

ABSOLUTELY,not only do people overdo it,they can be doing more harm than good.Wax build up causes inconsistancies and really affects accuracy.

The biggest problem I had with my new Alphamax and the Fuse string was there is enough wax in and on the string to last 10 years. It was all I could do to separate the darn thing for a peep without tearing a strand.

I wax MAYBE 3 times a year and that is after abusive use from weather or so forth and I wax VERY LITTLE when I do. I will wax around where the slide rides more than any area on the strings or cables.

I will only use a high quality wax as well,no text tite stuff for me.Dalton makes an excellent wax.

My string maker has told me he has to remove wax before making a string.

AND,I also only shoot my strings for 2 years and replace. The thing with high quality strings is they can look fine 1 day and break the next.It is more for preventive measures than out of necessity.
