Well I've been hunting for a particular buck since I saw him on Nov 6th. Haven't seen him since....until today. I almost didn't go out this afternoon...been fighting a sinus cold bad, and really didn't feel like it. But I knew that if I didn't go...I'd regret it till next Oct, so I grabbed the bow and headed out at 2pm.
For the first hour some yahoo's behind our land were shooting non-stop. I was beginning to regret my decision. They had to have shot 500-600 high power and what sounded like big pistol shots in an hour, it was so annoying. I counted 77 shots in a row....I have no idea how many people were shooting. About 3pm they quit...and 15 mins later I saw a nice doe. She didn't come into range, but walked right under one of my other stands. About 4pm I hear some leaves crunching....and I see a NICE body coming my way. I think...no way - could it be? Sure enoughit makes its way towards me and I'm getting siked. Finally into an opening...he already shed both sides
He worked his way right down towards me and stopped in one spot about 35yds for15 minutes. I couldn't believe he didn't move a muscle that entire time, other than occassionally looking around. At least I got to see him....and hopefully he'll be there next year if he can avoid the cars and road hunters. Cool encounter anyhow. I'm95% certain it was him...had huge bumps on his head where his horns were....and he was right on the same path I saw him 2 mos ago. My best guess then was 115" or so, and 3.5 at least....which is a pretty darn big one for my area.
Overall it was a good season for me. I had fun, took a couple deer, one nice buck with a rifle, and my 11yr old son got a 93" 8pt with his rifle. Can't complain....but I sure wish that buck would have still had his horns!
Good luck to those of you still out there!
Mike
