Default Why is this spot so good?

A few of you may remember me posting this up a few weeks ago, about finding a dynamite stand location. In two sits here and trail camera pictures, its definately confirmed. In two sits, I've had one kill and seen 13 deer. That is more than I've seen out of any other stand on the place. I had countless upon countless trail camera pictures in a matter of two weeks. Even had a nice 8pt on camera. They were ALL in the morning and ALL during daylight. Anywhere from 745am to 1145 am.

So tell me, why is this place so good?

Yellow- Stand
Purple- trails
Blue- confirmed bedding areas.
Red- property lines

First off, you probably have the wind in you favor most of the time at that location. Assuming that north is up on your map, the prevailing wind is coming from the west which makesyoudownwind from the trails most of the time.

Second, it appears that you are sitting at a main intersection of trails that lead from the bedding area to the open field. I assume there is a food source there.

Third the deer may be headed for the water source (possum creek)that is to the south and that is the shortest distance from the bedding area to the water.

I think that you've already answered your question.

Lol Greg, I'd say you're right.

As far as the wind being in my favor the most of the time, you are correct. I would love to take all the credit in the world as far as scouting goes. Which, I did scout it. I knew there were trails intersecting across the logging road, so I set up near them. When we got the snow fall a few weeks ago, it all came together and I used it to scout. It's paying off.

I honestly have to say, it's a good feeling

Here are some pictures from the stand.

Front

Behind

Right side, the one kill I've had, she came out in between the two trees on the right side of the logging road. 23yds.

Did I mention there are always turkeys roosted back here too [:-]

Sounds/looks like you have a nice spot. I wish the bush was that open round here.

Do you havea topo of that parcel of land? I would be interested to see what it looks like. From the pics you posted, it looks like the logging road is a "bench" on on a big ridge.

You have two bedding areas near by, the wind is most likely in your favor or you wouldn't be seeing deer that close to their beds, and both of the bedidng areas meet up by ur stand. Great set up and sounds like you did some good scouting.
