Default Its gonna be a great morning hunt

With the moon the way it is (brightest in 15 yrs), the wind NW 2mph), and temps (20 deg)...its offering me a good start tomorrow. Its been raining here for 2 days so the deer are moving like crazy. I went out to get some firewood and my lab took off across the field and there must have been a dozen deer running away. The moon lit up everything, so Im guessing that they are out searcing for some food and the bucks looking for the does that have not been bred.

Anyone else taking advantage of this moon phase and the late estrus?

Just got back in from an am hunt here in Ohio. Saw more deer than I could keep track of. There was a bunch and they worked around me for over an hour. I wasn't after a doe though so they all got a pass this time. I had to leave to take my daughter to a game. I ended up having to wait on them to go away to get down.

It was fun..

We (brknarrow and I) didn't see a single deer ......in a woodlot I haven't been skunked in all year.....lol. We actually only heard 2 distant shot (rifle), also. That's saying a lot for where I live...on a Saturday.

This year I have not hear half the shots I usually hear .... and I'm talkin about; opening day, Thanksgiving, all the other Saturdays ..... i haven't seen nearly the deer I have in past years either ..... it's been a weird year for me ....

It was a very unusaul morning hunt. Got in early to my stand and bumped a few that I couldnt see. When the sun did come up I watched about 7 doe feeding on the clovers until about 8:15. I have never seen them feed on the clover until late afternoon. I only saw about a dozen does all morning so Im home and gonna go to another piece of land I have not hunted yet this season.

Im thinking that since the deer were probably moving alot more than usual last night, this afternoon from about 2-4 will be better than usual. Im going to an island where the deer are known to retreat to while the hunt clubs run the dogs.
