Call a professional. Herd count would be a good start. More than just numbers to consider. You got food, habitat, cover.... all those goodies to consider. Just killing to say it's QDM would be the wrong place to start. In the "Big Buck" mentality of QDM they're trying to get to a 1:1 ratio does to bucks. But, the other factors have to be considered.

The number of does we saw at the end of last season, the number we saw during the late winter, spring and summer, trail cam. monitoring, etc. etc.

Good question to ask if you're just starting QDM bud. A good way to figure this out is to try to get a rough estimate of your property's sex ratio as well as the number of does. Remember, some QDMers promote taking up to 50% of the does on the property.

By talking to the wildlife biologist in assigned to my area. He tells us how many deer/square mile we have before the season, how many deer/square mile is ideal, and how many does we need to take to achieve that number. Right now we are at 35/sm and 20/sm is ideal.[:@]

Bowman, if you just hunt, how to ensure your QDM goals are met?
