Default Jawbone aging/tooth wear "experts"....a ?

My taxi that's doing the euro mount for me uses a micrometer to measure tooth wear.....and references his measurements against a "std" chart (realizing that it's not an 'absolute' science).

Is this std. operating procedure? Kinda more scientific than I thought it might be....in watching him do the measurements.

Thanks.

If you want the best way to get the exact age of your deer, cut one of the teeth in half and look at the cross section under a microscope

just this last wkend i pulled and aged jaws at a check station. yes its standard for 4.5 and older bucks. .5 yr old, 1.5, and 2.5 are all reallly obvious. a .5 will only have 4 or 5 teeth. (mature deer have 6), a 1.5 will have all 6 and they are labeled 2,3,4 premolars. no1 due to it supposedly being dropped sometime in their evolution. and 1,2,3 molars. the number 4 premolar will be a tricuspid in a 1.5. at 2.5 it is a bicuspid, and all the teeth are really sharp. after that the wear depends on location and food sources but you can use a millimeter and match it up to a chart and get a general idea of age

Never heard of that one, but I do have a set of cast resin teeth to use as a reference. I won it at a QDMA Banquet I went to last year.
