This is my first season hunting and every time I've been afield (except for one sit) I've seen deer. The problem is they haven't been close enough to take a shot. Even worse is that now I can only do Saturdays - and not every one. The long Thanksgiving weekend should be good for one more day in the woods. But last Saturday was the worst - I saw two deer - a good sized buck and then a doe. Both of them caught my scent and took off before coming any closer! Did my best with killing my scent, but they got me! The wind that day was not in my favor. Hopefully this weekend will be better.

What's even worse is that I see even more deer on the side of the road dead. If I could hunt with my truck's bumper I'd probably have one by now!

Patience. It can take some time to take one with a bow. If you know someone who hunts.. you'll likely get there faster with some Q's for him/her.

I am curious to why you don't think that when gun hunting in Illinois it's the rut still. It is.. just a different phase of it. But it's still the rut.

Good luck on your quest. Ask Q's.. get answers. But mostly just be out there and hunt with the wind in your favor.

Partner....it don't get any easier once you kill one. See then....you start thinking about certain ones. Then you're back to square one.

Good luck....and keep the faith. I know exactly how you must feel, right now.

I hauled this cat around with me for three years before he got his first deer. 149 3/8 He thinks it was all worth it. I will add though that he could have shot many. Be paitent, It will all eventually go down so fast you won't believe it. Chris
