I got kicked out of the company deer hunting contest!
Every year we (the guys at work) have a big buck contest during the gun deer season. It's simple: $10 a guy, biggest buck wins, if there are no bucks shot, biggest doe takes.I've been with the company 3 years now and have won the contest 3 times. Since the beginning, the contest was not weapon specific but is confined to the window of timethat only involves the gun season. Now they're kicking me out and banning my bow. I'm the only bowhunter by the way.
The first reason given: "Well, we only have a week and a half to hunt whereas you can hunt til the end of December." uhhh, OK what does that matter when it's already a given that only deer shot during the regulargun season will count?
The follow up reason given in rebuttal to that: "Well, we have to keep all the parameters equal."
LOL... that's when I quit trying tostatemy case that they actually have the advantage over me. I don't want this to be taken the wrong way by anyone but I wonder if the fact that I've alreadykilled 2 bucks this year on top of winning 3 years in a row has anything to do with their decision. Oh well.Still kinda sucks though because the contest is supposed to be about having fun and hyping up the deer hunting. I never really cared about the stupid $10.

Don't kid yourself, bowhunters have a much better chance ofharvesting a big buck. Think of it this way. If you had to kill a buck over 140" and you had to do it in one season, failure meant your life, would you choose bow season or gun season and the weapon accompanying that season? For me, it's a no brainer, give me the bow!

I take it you didnt read the part where he said only bucks taken during the gun season counted.

Sounds like you are just showing them your a quality hunter. Take it as a compliment. It would be like a 1 on 1 between me and GregH. I would really feel that he should be banned from the contest because he is obviously going to beat me, but that is just a compliment from me to him. Nothing bad about GregH obviously, but he's just a good one to use to show how amazing he is. Either way just enjoy the hunting man. You are obviously doing well and they envy you.

Jeff already helped point you in the right direction but let me remind you toothat I have to arrow a buck under 40yds witha ~250fps arrowwhen he isrunning away from 2800fps bullets that can take him out at 300+yds.
I try to study what I think are escape routes and wait in ambush. One of the bucks on my wall is actually an escape route deer.2 yrs ago, I had a 140-150 class sneak by at 50yds. If they use this escape route again, I will be 20yds closer. My luck though, he'll come 30yds on the other side of where my old tree was.
